Explore one of the most remarkable places in southern Chile. Pumalín Douglas Tompkins National Park is the kingdom of the temperate rainforest, with breathtaking trails waiting to be explored alongside our expert naturalist guides.
Located at the gateway to the Patagonian fjords region, the park is surrounded by glacier valleys, active volcanoes, and some of the best-preserved forests in Chile, home to extraordinary biodiversity.
The conservation project behind these lands, led by Tompkins Conservation, is an essential part of the park’s history. Today, the park is one of the highlights of the Route of Parks of Patagonia, a network of protected areas stretching across Chilean Patagonia.

ITINERARY
We depart from Puerto Varas at 8:00 AM and head to the local airport to board a 30-minute flight to Chaitén. Upon arrival, our vehicle will be waiting to take us to the El Amarillo area of Pumalín Park, where we will begin a 3-hours hike along El Mirador trail (5 km – easy).
In the evening, we continue north to Caleta Gonzalo area for dinner and to enjoy the sunset from our cozy cabins overlooking the fjord.
Box lunch and dinner included.
Overnight in Caleta Gonzalo, Pumalín National Park.
After breakfast, we will explore different areas of the park with a hike to Chaitén Volcano (4 hours – 5 km – moderate to high difficulty) and an interpretive walk to the Hidden Waterfalls (2 hours – 2 km – low difficulty). Chaitén Volcano is still active and offers an impressive example of nature’s force in this region.
The interpretive hike is a great opportunity to learn more about the temperate rainforest and its wildlife, including a wide variety of plant species, elusive amphibians, and—with some luck—mammals and birds such as the pudú (the world’s smallest deer), the Magellanic woodpecker, and the chucao tapaculo, among others.
Breakfast, box lunch, and dinner included.
Overnight in Caleta Gonzalo, Pumalín National Park.
Morning activity in the park before we head back to the local airport of Chaiten for our short flight to Puerto Montt. Transfer to Puerto Varas or to Puerto Montt Airport.
End of the adventure
Breakfast and box lunch included.
